LEADERSHIP

Our senior pastor (called a “rector” in Anglican terminology) is Rev. Robert Roe. He loves being involved in the Sarnia community, spending time at the family cottage, watching hockey games, and talking geography with fellow geography-buffs. He and his wife have three children, two girls and one boy, and have been with us at Cornerstone from our launch in 2012.

AFFILIATIONS

Cornerstone Anglican Church is a member parish of the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) under the authority and care of our Diocesan (Lead) Bishop, The Right Rev. Charlie Masters.

ANiC is a diocese within the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and is in fellowship with millions of biblically faithful Anglicans from every continent.  We consider it a privilege to be part of the worldwide Christian Church made of people from a wide variety of denominations who worship and serve under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

HISTORY

Cornerstone held its opening worship service on the bright Sunday morning of July 22, 2012. Gathered together in a humble event hall, we sang, prayed, and praised together for the first time ever as Cornerstone Church. Unsure of what the future held, we knew only this: God had brought us together & it would be Him who supplied all of our needs. A few months later we moved into Sarnia Christian School where we remain to this day, thanks to their gracious generosity.
Over the course of our history, we have relied on God's provision and have seen it come to play time and time again; both in Cornerstone itself and in the lives of its members. We serve a big God who is able to do "infinitely more than we can ask or imagine".

OUR BELIEFS

We, at Cornerstone Anglican Church, along with all other ANiC churches, affirm the historic creeds of the Christian Church (Apostles’, Nicene and Athanasius) and the foundational documents of Anglicanism (such as the Book of Common Prayer).  Some of our core beliefs, shared by Christians throughout the world and summarized in The Jerusalem Declaration document (2008), include:

  • The supreme authority of the Bible in all matters of faith and morality
  • The Trinity: one God in Three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)
  • The full humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ who is the only Saviour and Lord
  • People’s salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ made possible through Christ’s death and resurrection
  • The presence and power of the Holy Spirit for all who believe in Jesus Christ
  • The return of Jesus at what is known as His second coming
  • God’s gift of eternal life for all those redeemed by Jesus

In response to our friendship with Jesus, Cornerstone Anglican Church members are committed to the proclamation of the Gospel – the Good News of Jesus – and to reach out in His name to make a positive difference in the lives of others so that many more people will come to know Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.  We give thanks to God that the ANiC leadership encourages and equips its member churches to discover and fulfill all the plans God has for them.  We invite you to join us in this mission.  A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at Cornerstone Anglican Church.
